History of the Gloucester County
Amateur Radio Club
One summer evening, many years ago, a group of hams got together to form their own local amateur radio club. After a number of meetings, and probably emphatic discussions, they laid down the new club's Constitution and By-laws. As with any new organization, the founders have great hopes and expectations that their new creation will flourish for years to come. The founders of the Gloucester County Amateur Radio Club, from that summer of 1959, have seen their hopes and expectations realized as the club has stood the test of time and in that process has created quite a history for itself.
What I hope to do, in the ensuing pages, is capture as much of that history as I can in a digital format before the history is lost forever. What I have brought forth, thus far, is only a small portion of what I hope is still out there in terms of old newsletters and historical documents. What I can't find on paper I hope to be able to document from recollections of our "old-timer" members and find in the archives (junk drawers) of our newer members. Unfortunately I believe that some history will be lost forever and that is a reality that, I hope, is minimal.
Most assuredly, this is a work in progress and will be for quite some time. While I normally will put a date/time stamp on the bottom of a changeable page I plan on putting the stamp on the top of the changing pages of history. This is so that if someone is periodically checking the history section of the site they can readily see if the page has been changed recently without having to scroll down to the bottom.
My ultimate goal is to put everything I collect onto a set of DVD's for storage as paper will deteriorate over time. I'll create several copies of the DVDs so that even they will be backed up against loss or damage, just in case.
With all of that being said let's embark on our historical journey.
